It is for freedom that Chris set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery... You my brothers were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge in sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
So I say, life by the Spirit will not gratify the sinful nature... The acts of sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like...
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law.
Those who belong to Chris Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions an desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
God, I pray that you would release your Spirit in us today, that we would walk side by side with you and that we would not just know of your freedom, but that you would instill the feeling within us. Holy Spirit, work in me to bear good fruits. For though I may be tempted to desire a sinful nature, I know that You are above all things, and that I have been set free from that, and must exercise self-control, finding joy knowing that life with the Spirit will NOT gratify these desires, but that the promises of freedom await those who abound in these fruits. Lord you know the feelings that are in my heart. You know what is holding me back, or pushing me forward. God, I cannot explain to you how I feel right now because I am pulled in every direction. And so I ask, once again, what is me and what is You? I find love for your people to be my driving force, joy in doing your work where I am now. I need your peace while you develop patience in me. Spirit, let my heart and my actions be kind and good always. Lord, I want to be faithful to you in all times, and so I surrender my ambitions to you once again, and will work to live a quiet, gentle life, working with my hands, through your strength, at all times. Father, convict me when I do not exercise self-control in all things.
Amen.
