I was writing to someone about something totally unrelated (or so I thought) to this subject, and I realized why we live unfulfilled lives even while trying to be Godly in our daily lives.
Jesus said to GO into all the world and preach good news to all creation.
He did not say "live this life I've given you and I'll bring people you're way to love and tell good news to." While this does happen, it happens because one generally interacts with people all the time. There are people in your life right now that need you to be kind and loving towards them everyday. That is how God wants us to be towards his glorious creation. That is how we fight the devil. That is how we know the Spirit of God is working in us (by developing the fruit [that is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control]).
However, this is still not all we are asked to do. This mindset, that God will just bring us people to love, is an act of passivity. Passive people do not GO, they let people COME to them. Active people GO into the world to make a difference. They give of themselves and their time regardless of the 'inconvenience' it may cause them to take a day and go to the soup kitchen, or homeless shelter, or mission trip to preach the good news to all creation when they COULD be going to that football game, NASCAR race, shopping mall, ... or very cozy couch where they will perhaps meet someone who needs a friendly smile.
We do this everyday, all the time. I am guilty of it as are many, many others. We have not been asked to sit idly by while God brings people to us. We have been told to go. "Go", my friends, is not a verb to use when you want someone to "stay". Otherwise, Jesus would have said something like "Stay in the places you live, work, laugh and love and I will bring the least of these to you!" I'm no Bible scholar, but I'm certain that this is not what was said.
The end!
