Her eyes make the stars look like they're not shining!

"So, dumb guys go for dumb girls, and smart guys go for dumb girls? What do smart girls get?"
"Cats, mostly."
-Modern Family

We will respond to love and mercy God has shown us! Let us praise the King of glory!

There is no bottom of the well of my gratitude. Every once in a while, I have to pinch myself.

-------------------------------

On every holiday, ever year, my mother tries to come up with traditions. I think we all know that's not how traditions work.

So here I am, writing about what my family traditionally does for Thanksgiving:

Sounds like:
-My alarm clock going off early with the intentions of running around the neighborhood, then being shut off.
-Dad waking up not long after that alarm clock to go downstairs for coffee and probably to play some video games before prepping for food.
-Mom wakes up sometime after that and goes downstairs to START chores, and cooking.
-I finally wake up, and go into my sister's room to wake her up... then crawl into HER bed. We usually chat it up.
-Sounds like flip flops flipping and flopping down the stairs by 10AM.
-The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is always on, but no one is ever watching it. It's just there for background noise and an occasional glance to see what they're talking about or who is singing.
-TV is on in both the kitchen and the living room, people watching or listening to both, though no one can actually hear what's going on because of the vacuum going somewhere in the house.
-Glee's last episode full of marriage and happy little love songs!
-Laughter and singing with harmony.

Looks like:
-Everyone in their PJs or work clothes until about two hours before dinner.
-All the food is prepped and ready for baking by about noon. The turkey goes in:
-After the turkey goes in, we start cleaning. For some reason, my family doesn't usually sit down for dinner until the house is picked up and, on Thanksgiving Day, the house is always cleaned and laundry is done.
-Dancing around the house...
- Marshall Hall's fully bearded face and a "Happy Thanksgiving" text message.

Smells like:
-Thanksgiving food in the morning (chicken broth and stuffing)
-After the turkey goes in, it starts smelling like clean floors and laundry. We all pitch in a little.
-After turkey comes out, the house starts smelling like casseroles and a delicious dinner.

Feels like:
-Cold inside the house, warm outside. Strange.
-A Saturday afternoon with a dinner party planned for the evening.
-Dancing.

Feels like:
Home, happiness, joy, love.
Like the sweetest songs you've ever heard... and danced to :).
Two hours before dinner, the entire family goes upstairs to get ready for dinner. We don't dress up, but we kind of do. Megan runs around taking a million pictures of everyone.

Tastes like:
Knorr's Vegetable dip in a large pumpernickel loaf with pieces of pumpernickel and Hawaiian bread around it for eating... all day. This has become my dish to make. I am usually the first to pull it out and eat it all too... Have to be careful to leave room for dinner!
-Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet-potato casserole with marshmallows on top, corn casserole, pineapple casserole, stuffing, THE BEST homemade cranberry sauce I've tasted in my entire life, green beans, rolls...

We eat dinner late, by the way. 6-7PM. Thanksgiving... dinner :).

Random quotes of the day:
"When was the first Thanksgiving, girls?" "1621." "Alright, very good! Now what is the first move in the Cupid Shuffle?"

----Maybe I'll update as I remember more/more comes up but for now, I really am going for a run now... AFTER I make the sweet potatoes.

  1. I heard that quote on Modern Family the other day and thought to myself: I need to remember that quote because it is so true. So, I am glad that you posted that. Also, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it basically worships sweet potatoes... and sweet potatoes are my true love.
