We all should do a little more...

I have a couple friends who are missionaries around the world.

This is the blog of one of them. Her name is (obviously) Ashley Peterson. She's on a mission with The World Race to go to 11 countries in 11 months. I know what it's like to want your friends and family to donate to causes that you care desperately about, and knowing what I know about Ashley, I can see that she does care about this. It has obviously impacted her life, but she is also making a huge difference to the people she interacts with by meeting their needs, being the hands and feet of Christ, and sharing hope that this world needs.

I often struggle with my own full stomach and cozy home knowing that these are indeed things I have not deserved nor worked harder to earn, more or less, than others who only know a life of poverty and the social injustices that come with it. I've felt a very distinct calling in my own life to serve the lost and broken here in America, but my heart still aches for the rest of the world.

I love how my own church's heart is one that seeks to serve God through missions. There is something to be said about one person making a large donation, but there is so much more realized when many people share responsibility for relieving this burden for those lost to God, suffering, and living in poverty. The goal of supporting missionaries and any aid effort (secular or not) is not to bring everyone to the same standard of living, but to bring peace, hope, and joy, if even for a moment; to ease tensions in families, to create avenues of healing and general goodness for mankind (and so much more).

Ashley is one avenue through which you can do your part in sharing this burden. Search your own heart and seek out what God would have you to do. It's a pretty practical matter. Even a little support is some support, and that makes a burden easier to carry, and relieves another burden for those already apart of the support, making each stronger, giving them the ability to be a stronger link in the system.

Who knows if that made sense, but since I already typed it out, I will leave it. Take a moment to truthfully evaluate what is important to you. You're not being judged for what you find in this evaluation. It's just a good thing to do, and often.

Lindsay :).
