Are you familiar with this kind of workout? The only experience I had with it was with www.maxcapacitytraining.com which I did for a little while... Not consistently though!
Recently, I was reintroduced to this fast paced, hard hitting workout by a session with a personal trainer (that came with a gym membership). I never really liked the idea of a fast workout. I know that sounds strange, but if I'm going to the gym, or working out, or running, I am doing it for a while! I guess it's just a mental thing- the longer I go, the more calories I burn. While this is somewhat true, I know by those long workouts, especially if they're all cardio, I probably burning more muscle mass than I want to be.
Enter, Tabata. Approx. 20 minutes (4 minutes of each exercise... 8 rounds of each exercise, 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off...). I can get this done in the mornings watching crap television that I enjoy (Kathy Lee and Hoda... since Kelly and Michael come on afterwards).
Since I haven't been working here, I didn't think fast workouts would be necessary. However, putting the house together is practically a full time job! Even with these 20 minute workouts, and a little bit of weight training, I haven't been able to workout everyday between the hours of 7AM and 7PM!
My wonderful in-laws are coming to visit this weekend, so I have been in overdrive to get everything done for the house, food for entertaining, setting up rooms, putting stuff away, teaching voice lessons, meeting with people, cooking dinner, getting lunch together, cleaning the kitchen at night... and at this point my head starts spinning, and none of this includes the time my brain desperately needs in a book, the Bible, and writing a little. The house is almost in an acceptable state. And I have managed to lose approximately 4lbs since we moved here. Awesome. Especially since my diet isn't ALL that awesome (not all the terrible, but certainly could lay off the baking). Thanks, Izumi Tabata.
I've done two of these workouts (1 full out, 1 modified), and I feel awesome. It seems to help me, as well, to get down on the floor and do 20 seconds of mountain climbers when I'm tempted to stop working and take a nap :).
Now I've just got to stop my joints from creaking... #only25 #shouldntsoundthisloud
The End!
