Dear Worship Leaders at Big Churches

You've got awesome media productions, even more creative designs and openings... I'm fascinated by all of the creativity and implementation that is done at your church. I'm filled with joy by your passion for the name of Jesus and proclaiming the word of God through song. However, if all you do in a gathering is tell people to stand and clap their hands because 'it's gonna be a good time', there might be something that gets lost in translation between standing up and singing. If I were an outsider to Christianity, and someone told me to stand and sing, especially when I start to notice people raising their hands in worship to who knows what, I want to know what I'm singing about. I'll probably sing, because I like to sing, but if I don't have any clue as to why I should even sing these words, then I'm not going to get it.

I say this as someone who is growing in this art form, but I see it happening so often... why create this AWESOME introduction without following through while transitioning from opening to the musical segments of worship. It is our responsibility to assist in this way. LB
