The diamonds of my nightmares

Okay, so I don't mean to write so much about weddings and what not. My poor boyfriend is probably feeling uncomfortable. I don't know if I'm unique or not, but unlike some girls who refuse to look at anything bridal, ever, until they are engaged, I embrace everything bridal and probably should have been a wedding planner. I mean, aren't weddings the ultimate "pretty things" venue? Every pretty little thing is incredibly cheesy, but oh well.

Now, most girls may dream about their wedding days, engagements, etc. However, I have nightmares about them. I have had nightmares about my wedding day (or the ones that happen while I sleep) since I was in high school! I can specifically remember one: I was wearing a flowery little dress with fake lace ruffles at the collar, that belonged on a kindergartner. I'm pretty sure I wore it in a play in the 2nd grade as Goldilocks. My groom, who didn't have a face (it was blurry, not gory!), gave me a 25cent ring he got out of a vending machine from the mall. The ceremony was happening in the back of the church I grew up in, in the dark, with the big dividers closed, while another beautiful wedding was happening in the front of the church. And what might tell you about how much I obsess over details: the parking lot of the church was actually the parking lot of my high school, and the outside of the building had blue and yellow painted bricks. Oh. My. Goodness.

Second nightmare- my then boyfriend got me a ring with a microscopic diamond and the gold was all bent up. Okay, not so bad. I mean, seriously: People don't eat and I'm complaining about the kind of diamond I get? I'm a little embarrassed that I felt so bad when I woke up.

Third- same guy, except he proposed at a restaurant, I was at the bar with one of my guy friends and he opened the box and there was a giant pearl staring back at me. Reason why: "I wanted to save money so we could buy a bigger TV so I could watch ...". I said no, he didn't know why, looked to my friend next to me and got a "Really? You don't know why she said no?"

Fourth, and reason for the title of this post: The diamonds of my nightmares. Have you ever seen Stardust? Have you ever seen the knives that the witches use to try to cut out the heart of the star? That's what the ring I got reminded me of. Same guy as before (we were together long enough, shouldn't I have taken a hint? God has been known to speak through dreams before...!), and he got me a ring with these "rare diamonds". They were dirt diamonds. They were brown, and looked like shiny tree bark. Also similar to a very low grade Chocolate Diamond. Maybe I was ahead of the rest of the world when I dreamed about them, but I didn't even know they existed.

NOW, I stumble upon THESE "diamonds in the rough", if you will. They are the diamonds that belong in that fourth dream/nightmare. They were apart of the tree-bark-brown-diamond-stardust-heart-wrenching-knife ring. I guess anything goes these days, but these, in my humble opinion, are not "pretty things."

The end! I need a mimosa.
