Love planted deeply becomes what it ought to be.

and hearts given freely become what they ought to be.

Love planted deeply becomes what it ought to be because it must be planted so deeply that the erosion caused by our pasts doesn't weather our souls to the point of hardness and un-forgiveness and is therefore given a place to be nurtured and eventually grow-- though it may take a little longer than if it was planted near the surface. We all have a past. I have accepted mine and forgiven myself, but most times accepting others' past and "giving freely" of their hearts is hard to accept. Our guards always go up too late, no? Seems like a poor defense is set up around a very important part of life! It is difficult to be wise, but is important to be wise.
