Ruth

I have read through Ruth. I am slowly working my way through the commentaries. As much as this book in the Bible makes my heart so happy, the commentaries then challenge me even more. Take Matthew Henry's note from the very first vereses (1-5):
"Note, It is an evidence of a discontented, distrustful, unstable spirit, to be weary of the place in which God hath set us, and to be for leaving it immediately whenever we meet with any uneasiness or inconvenience in it. It is folly to think of escaping that cross which, being laid in our way, we ought to take up. It is our wisdom to make the best of that which is, for it is seldom that changing our place is mending it."
I strongly encourage those who do wish to read in the Bible or study any book to read these as well. It doesn't take an extensive search to know they double as devotional and quiet time material as well. I know that in this instance, the word of one man on a subject does not mean that that word is necessarily the rule, but these much more learn-ed words are worth considering...

I'm so happy to be studying this book, seriously! What a joy...
