"Your body language is often communicating way more than your mouth is."
I subscribe to this online magazine called SundayMag| and I really love the articles/blogs they publish about 5 areas of church leadership: Creative Process, Visuals, Tech, Communication, Leadership, Worship
This is an article that popped up under "Worship" this month, and it addresses one part of being a worship leader that I think about every week, whether I'm leading on the platform or not.

I absolutely love what this article is addressing. Not just for "professional" worship leaders, but for volunteers and ANYONE who is on stage. The only thing I would clarify for her is what "performance" means, especially in a church setting.
Like with anything, there IS a message that needs to be expressed. Whether fictional or truth, it is your job as a "performer" or as anyone giving a speech, delivering a line, singing a song, etc. to make people believe it. The thing about someone leading a congregation in worship, though, is that they are (or should be) not just actors, but vetted individuals who believe the message they're giving, and humbly propel the gospel forward with their faith, words, melody and actions. I cannot tell you how many times I'll be in church and think, "I don't believe anything this worship leader is singing or saying." To me, that is more distracting than an out of tune guitar or a horrible sounding vocal. And that's too bad, but not too late to change.
