As always, there is so much to be thankful for this year. I was transferring calendar events to a new 2015 calendar and can't believe it was a little over a year ago that Matt came home from Afghanistan, and a little under a year ago we found out we were going to have a baby. Strange to think those 9 months have passed, and even stranger that it feels like Annabelle has always been with us. We have been blessed by friends, our church, and especially our family. I am so thankful for the gift that comes wrapped up as sisters, brothers, and friends.
While today is not the day we find our lives breaking, aching, or full of sorrow, I know there are many who do. I know there are broken hearts, empty families, and empty tummies. I know there are people aching for their lives to be acknowledged as equal regardless of race, skin color, gender, job, etc. and it is with those things in mind that I count my blessings and pray that they could be used to heal this world. Regardless of your perspective on history, tomorrow we celebrate the tradition of how people from different nations, ethnicities, languages, privileges and cultures came together peacefully to learn from each other to give life. I hope we can extend the arm of compassion and hospitality in our own lives to do the same.
